Most pet insurance guides start with the policy. We start with the animal. A French Bulldog, a Labrador and a Persian cat face very different health problems, and a policy that suits one can leave another badly exposed. A breed's typical conditions decide which policy terms will matter to you: how long a policy keeps paying for a lifelong condition, whether a problem on the second hip counts as a new claim, and what happens if it starts before the cover does.

Who checks the content

Our guides are researched from veterinary studies, Kennel Club data, professional bodies and insurers' own documents, and every claim is cited. Each page shows whether it has been reviewed by a vet yet. Read how we research for the detail.
